Deputy Director Max Adams, played by Jonathan Banks, is a character in DEXTER. Max Adams is the Deputy Director of the FBI and the lead Agent assigned to the Bay Harbor Butcher Investigation after Special Agent Frank Lundy apparently let the "Bay Harbor Butcher" go. He begins to pressure Lundy to make an arrest and when Lundy asks him to consider evidence that could exonerate Doakes (on behalf of Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta) he overlooks it and tells Lundy to "show a little guts". Debra intercedes on Lundy's behalf, telling Adams to show respect and Adams simply scoffs at her and walks off. After James Doakes' body is found in a cabin in the Everglades with a chopped up body nearby, Adams considers the case closed and returns home. Adams is clearly a politically motivated bureaucrat who wants to use the case in order to further his own career.
