McCourt looks to be just about 6 feet tall and has short brown hair. Batista, thinking that Lieutenant Maria LaGuerta is having an affair with him, asks Debra if women would find him to be attractive. Debra responds that she would rather put out a fire with her face than date him. He regularly wears a suit and tie.
McCourt seem to be a By-The-Books kind of officer, as when he is working on Batista's bar fight case, he refuses to accept that Sergeant Lopez has agreed to drop the charges. He can also be rather manipulative, asking Laguerta to help him with a sting at a local motel involving Detective Stan Liddy.
He first appears working on a bar fight case between Batista and a Sgt. Lopez of the Sheriffs department. He appears in the Homicide office to inform Batista that Lopez collapsed on duty and was taken to the hospital. Because of his condition, Lopez has decided to press charges. He also informs Lt. Laguerta that Batista may end up losing his job for Assault and Battery against a fellow officer, and that he may also have to serve time in prison, upsetting Laguerta immensely. He then asks Laguerta if it is true that she gives the best blow jobs in Miami, as said by Lopez on the night of the fight, sparking the possibility of an affair between him and her. When Batista persuades Lopez to drop the charges, McCourt is unwilling to close the case that easily. He then talks to LaGuerta and gives her a chance to drop the case entirely if she'll help him nail a dirty Narcotics cop named Detective Stan Liddy. She agrees and they start meeting every few weeks in coordination with the sting. Angel however is unaware of this and assumes they are having an affair when he busts into a motel room they were in. They explain the situation to him and berate him for almost ruining an operation.
