Sí Se Puede is the sixth of twelve episodes in Season Three of the Showtime series DEXTER, and the thirtieth overall episode of the series. It first aired 2 November 2008.
Miguel Prado befriends Dexter, knowing that he killed at least two people. Dexter's true body count and his alternate identity remain unknown to Miguel. It's revealed that Miguel has a dark plan for his vigilantism. Debra realizes that she may be partially responsible for the death of the skinned victims. Dexter's old friend Camilla Figg is dying of cancer. Angel asks Barbara Gianna out on a date. Sylvia Prado invites Rita to work as her assistant in real estate. Debra and Joey Quinn apprehend Ramon Prado when they find him torturing a man. Debra finally tells Quinn about Yuki Amado's investigation into him.
Summary[]
Dexter and Miguel are fishing and drinking beer on Dexter's boat. Miguel outright asks Dexter how it felt to kill Ethan Turner. Unable to avoid answering, Dexter replies, "It felt right. Felt like justice." Miguel nods and says they are like-minded and together they can make a difference.
Later, Dexter relaxes by his pool and daydreams of “Harry” trying to convince him that Miguel won't truly understand him, or his urges and ritual: “You think Miguel’s a pal? Your wingman? You might want to put that notion to the test… see how like-minded you and Miguel really are. Every time you let someone get close, it ends badly.” Dexter jumps into the pool and swims the length as he decides to make Miguel understand the risks. Just because he can gut a fish doesn’t qualify him to hang with me while I… do what I do best, Dexter thought.
Dexter arrives at a new crime scene, where a distraught Debra informs him that The Skinner has skinned again. This time it's Wendell Owens, Freebo's doorman, whom Debra had recently questioned. Unlike the two previous victims, Wendell died from the skinning process itself which removes a majority of skin from his chest while he was still alive. Dexter thinks the killer is an expert, and Angel orders Quinn to put the case through a national database to see if a similar M.O. comes up anywhere else.
As Dexter combs Florida's DOC files looking for a target to present to Miguel with a high degree of difficulty and jeopardy, Debra enters his office. She is freaked out because the last two Skinner victims were murdered after she talked to them, and the killer might be drafting off her investigation. Debra says that the only people who know Wendell was brought to the station are the cops, Wendell's mother, Anton Briggs, and Ramon Prado. The latter seems the most likely since he is obsessed with finding Freebo.
While meeting with her friend, Attorney Ellen Wolf, Maria learns that she’s now going after Miguel for prosecutorial misconduct. Maria feels used because she had given Ellen a police file. Ellen tries to convince Maria that she doesn't know the dark side of Miguel, but Maria is angry and doesn't want to hear it.
Debra goes to Anton's apartment and he assures her that he didn't tell anyone about Debra meeting with Wendell. He offers her a beer and, jokingly, pot. With Debra clearly bothered that she might have been indirectly involved in Wendell's death, Anton takes her hand to comfort her. The two have a "moment," before Debra pulls away. As she’s leaving, Anton tells her that the girl in his apartment the other night was nothing serious. Debra answers that it’s none of her business.
Dexter tells Miguel about his suggestion for justice, an Aryan-affiliated inmate named Clemson Galt, from one of his first blood spatter cases. Galt, who hammered a girl to death when he found out she was pregnant, was never convicted of the murder, but is doing time in a Supermax prison for armed robbery. Though incarcerated, Galt is still running things from his prison cell, having ordered the brutal murders of the wife and three kids of an Aryan defector. Expecting Miguel to not have the stomach to help kill Galt, Dexter is shocked that Miguel, after his initial protests, suggests they come up with a game plan.
Dexter arrives at the station deep in thought. Although Galt has been on his Top Ten List for a long time, in this instance, he is using him to convince Miguel to "find some other hobby." Masuka is disappointed that Dexter didn’t bring donuts.
Maria tells Dexter that Camilla Figg, an old family friend from Records, is suffering in the hospital with terminal lung cancer. He agrees to sign Maria’s card and take it to Camilla.
Over the phone, Angel is turned down for a date by Vice Detective Barbara Gianna. When Angel asks if she ever eats, Barbara replies, “I’ll tell you what, Sergeant. I get hungry enough, I will call you.”
Angel is flabbergasted when Debra asks him for permission to investigate Ramon Prado as the Skinner. Quinn overhears and joins the discussion. Debra reminds them that Ramon has access to all their records and he’s not a stable guy. Also, his work schedule shows that he was off duty when the last two murders went down. Quinn states that they can’t ignore something because it might get messy. Angel gives Debra the go-ahead but insists that she keep it off-the-grid and is discreet. Angel decides to not tell Maria.
Dexter brings flowers to Camilla, who tells him that, before she dies, all she really wants is the perfect key lime pie. She also talks about losing her dignity at death's door, something which happened to her husband a year ago.
At Miguel’s house, Sylvia suggests to a recently fired Rita that she work as her assistant in real estate.
Dexter purposely proposes a lousy plan to Miguel for getting to Galt. However, Miguel counters with a much better plan. He has already subpoenaed Galt as an expert witness in a racketeering case, and they will have their chance to kill him the following night. Dexter is surprised that Miguel has such an aptitude and appetite for this line of work.
Debra, who just finished hours of surveillance of Ramon, is once again approached by Yuki Amado. She wants Debra to wear a wire and get close to Quinn. Debra refuses, using some choice words. This time, Amado threatens Debra, saying that she will let the word out that she’s been cooperating all along and everyone will think she’s a rat, anyway.
Dexter and Miguel meet at the courthouse and Miguel details the plan for Galt, which involves helping Galt escape from the courthouse through a side door. While grumbling about justice, Miguel spots Maria and complains about her friendly relationship with defense attorneys. Ellen tells Maria that she has more than enough to get the conviction Chicky Hines set aside. When Maria still defends Miguel, Ellen says to let her know if she ever wants to hear the truth about Miguel.
Debra informs Angel that she will be tailing Ramon again that night. He doesn’t want to hear about it, but he warns her to watch her ass.
Seconds after Angel passes on a free sexual favor from a recently released 'pro,' his phone rings. It’s Barbara who says she's interested in dinner. The implication is that the girl was a plant by Barbara to see if Angel had turned over a new leaf.
Dexter brings Camilla a key lime pie which isn't up to her standards.
Rita tells Dexter that she might take Sylvia up on her job offer, but worries about working with a friend. She finally decides to take the risk. Rita adds that, according to Sylvia, Miguel has been a complete wreck lately.
Back at his apartment, Dexter has another daydream in which “Harry” once again represents Dexter's doubt about Miguel's involvement.
Miguel meets with Galt in a holding cell and endures a few racist taunts. Miguel convinces Galt that Aryan Brotherhood threats have forced him to help Galt escape and slips Galt a key. As Miguel leaves the cell, there is a snafu, however. He’s unable to prevent a guard from entering the holding cell, which is now vacant.
Pretending to be a fellow white supremist, Dexter meets Galt outside the building. As they are walking away, sirens begin to sound. Dexter knocks Galt out with an injection to the neck as he wonders whether he was right to trust Miguel. Just then Miguel pulls up in his car and they escape the scene. Miguel drives to Dexter's car and tells Dexter to go ahead to the kill house and wait for him.
While tailing Ramon, Debra observes him attacking and shoving a man into the trunk of his car. She calls Quinn and follows Ramon to an unoccupied location. Quinn arrives and the two of them watch Ramon as he tortures the man. Debra says his name is Felipe Cepeda and he’s one of Freebo's hemp suppliers. However, when Ramon releases the man, it proves Ramon is not the Skinner. Debra and Quinn tell an astounded Maria that they've discreetly arrested Ramon for kidnapping and false imprisonment. Angel backs them up and Quinn gives Debra full credit for handling the situation.
Debra finally tells Quinn about Amado's inquiries, but apparently he's not worried, saying they have "history" and it’s a "personal vendetta."
Dexter has Galt on his table, firing off some clever pre-killing trash-talk. As Dexter plunges the knife into Galt's chest, Miguel arrives at an empty location. Dexter has taken Galt elsewhere as he isn't ready to share the final moments with anyone. Miguel smiles when he realizes he has been duped. Dexter believes that he's found a good friend in Miguel.
