A Horse of a Different Color is the fourth of twelve episodes in Season Six of DEXTER, and the sixty-fourth overall episode in the series. It first aired 23 October 2011 on Showtime.

An emergency with Harrison and a new tableau from Gellar and Travis has Dexter leaning on Brother Sam and an unexpected winged messenger for support as he questions the idea of faith; with proof of a religiously motivated killer, Homicide hunts for a zealot, with Debra giving her first official press conference.

Summary

Brother Sam baptizex people near a beach. Then Dexter sits with Sam talking about a greater power. Dexter gets a call, which leads him to a strange scene: four torn apart, mutilated bodies strung back together onto a mannequin in medieval fighting poses, on top of horses, carrying medieval weapons. Debra then notices something on one of the horse's head, and walks over, noticing that a painted insignia on the horse's fur matched the one carved in the chest of the victim found with live snakes in his chest. Masuka comments that all the blood types of the mannequins are B positive, meaning that it was the same person on each mannequin. Mike Anderson, Debra's replacement, then notes that the horses are the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse", and suggests that whoever did this was a religious man. During the autopsy of the body parts, Dexter finds something buried underneath the eye of the victim, and pulls out a piece of paper, which reads "1242" in Celtic-looking numbers. Dexter and Debra then think of the snake victim, and get his body to look for any numbers. They don't find any on the body itself, but upon examination and "autopsy" of the victim's intestines, another piece of paper with the numbers "1237" in the same style is found.
