Dexter and Deborah are dealing each in their own way with the aftermath of the attack they suffered on Issue #3, were an unknown biker ignited Deborah's car on fire with a molotov explosive. Deborah discusses the event with Dexter and get to the conclusion that the responsible was Deveaux because of his past as a Tonton Macoute. As they leave the firefighters deal with the fiery accident, they head to the New Hope Foundation.

There they question Steve Gonzalez in regards of Deveaux guilt. He states Deveaux could not be responsible for such a thing.

People change, he says. However suspicion arise when he confirms Deveaux has missed three counceling sessions. Deborah and Dexter leave Gonzalez, with Deborah still sure that the responsible was Deveaux, while Dexter's Dark Passenger senses something is not right with Gonzalez.

While Deborah directs a task force in search of Deveaux, putting out APBs and even running checks on red motorcycles, Dexter takes matters in his own hands and puts his killing attire to pay a visit to Gonzalez's penthouse in search of clues.

There he realizes how Gonzalez has come up with such a nice place to live and how the real states business has made him flourish- including the business involving Mar Dorado and the New Hope Foundation. Dexter states that Gonzalez has been good in keeping appearances, but his Dark Passenger can not be fooled as he enters a secret room in Gonzalez's penthouse. There he finds objects and paintings of erotic and sexual nature. Uninterested in Gonzalez's apparent dirty hobbies, Dexter kept looking and found a safe with information about the social security, birth certificate, bank accounts and even a power of attorney belonging to no other then Arthur Bleek, made out for Steve Gonzalez. The safe also contained information on various other people that are probably members of the New Hope Foundation (including Deron Saunders and William Metz).

Dexter thinks he is still more clever than Gonzalez, after finding that information, when suddenly he realizes he might have just felt into a trap as he discovers he been recorded since the moment he entered that secret room - by a camera located inside one of Gonzalez's paintings. While attending a gala, Gonzalez's phone receives a photo depicting Dexter invading his penthouse to which he smiles. Dexter exits the building and heads home before continuing his investigation. Dexter arrives home and finds Astor and Cody watching a movie, and states that family life can sometimes be so demanding. He heads to his computer to continue his research on Gonzalez. While researching, Dexter receives a call from Deborah, who states that she found Deveaux, however to both surprise, he is dead. Deveaux's body is in the morgue near's Bleek's corpse.
